Schoon means beautiful in Dutch. It is a fitting
description for what Schoon de Companje do here, the way they do it, with
emphasis on you and their opinion of you as a person, the people they do it for
what more can one ask for? You do feel truly spoiled when you visit, as if you

De Companje is a collaboration of
artisans in the true sense of the word, not merely a label, but rather the
artisan that contributes to his community in Stellenbosch.
Schoon de Companje do so with the skills that they
have acquired over time through study and practice and by using only the finest
and purest of ingredients which you will find when you walk through the
magnificent eatery – everything under one roof, a one-stop shop with abundant
offerings- all made with love. Situated in the heart of
Stellenbosch, on the corner of Church and Bird Street lies a gem – a family
business originally started out with the De Oude Bank Bakkerij, known for
its incredible selection of freshly baked goods. Schoon De Companje now also houses a stunning
wine shop, magnificent coffee roastery, fantasy ice cream shop (Fanny Chanel), carnivorous
butchery, and a section with fresh and locally grown produce.

Breakfast try their loved up cream scrambled eggs on sourdough, they also have
a lighter option of seasonal fruit salad with yogurt and roasted almonds or stetheyd
fruit on homemade granola, and for something different they have roasted bone marrow
on sourdough with confit of onion and blue cheese cream.
All the eggs are Pasture Reared hens from Spier, the breads are all hands shaped and baked in a wood fried oven in full view of the guests. Lunch time is full of meaty dishes, the Burger is a must, patties made by Nice to Meat Boutique Butcher on Butter Buns, Beef Frikkadel on sour dough with tomato smoor and basil cream.
They have two options of Hotpress sandwiches. For a healthier option try their Bulgur wheat and Quinoa Fritter salad as it is divine. On the stheyet side you have the option of the finest fresh pastries of the day and Fanny Chanel artisan ice-cream served in a homemade cone or in a cup.
